When you google “health benefits of berries” you can find loads of articles about antioxidants, polyphenols, preventing cancer, heart diseases, lowering blood pressure, fighting visceral fat, preventing brain damage in elders, Parkinson, Alzheimer, fight urinary tract infections, weight control, digestive tract benefits, controlling blood sugar and insulin release and it just goes on.
So, I’m not here to tell you why berries are extremely good for you no matter what your health goal is (you can find a good and long list of nutrients and their value to us here). I think Google can do a better job on that. I want to give you some practical ideas on how to incorporate berries into your life.
Just snack! The easiest and healthiest snack you could possibly get is just having a handful of fresh berries. Dried unsweetened berries are a good substitute if you don’t have access to fresh.
Add fresh or frozen berries to cereals or yogurts (vegan, of course) – This is a great option for a healthy, nutritious breakfast. Berries are sweet and flavourful, so you don’t need to worry about adding any sugar, they’ve got you covered!
Boost your smoothies with some fresh or frozen berries.
Add fresh or frozen berries to your water to give an extra boost of nutrients and taste.
Berry-ice. As simple as that. Add berries to your ice cubes, it makes them fun!
Chia pudding with berries (find a recipe here).
Berry popsicles – just puree some berries in a food processor or a blender, pour them into molds and freeze. You can experiment by adding chia, vegan yogurt, almond milk or other treats.
Add fresh or dried unsweetened berries to salads.
Add berries to your tea.
